Today is World Oceans Day and it’s important to us to help amplify it’s message. By The Sea Media’s name was inspired by the fact that we are located on the Jersey Shore. We are extremely grateful to be in such close proximity to some of the most beautiful areas on the East Coast. From NYC to Philadelphia, we can easily travel to local hubs of business (and yes, we DO travel inland!). We work with clients around the country, but the Jersey Shore will always be our home.

Being near the sea is not only aesthetically inspiring, but it also reminds us of the vastness of the world we live in and how connected we all are. Our planet and our very way of life depend upon the vitality of the ocean to support and sustain it. The air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat can all come from the ocean, and many of the products that keep us safe and warm are transported across the ocean. Did you know that rainforests are responsible for 28% of Earth’s oxygen, but 70% of oxygen in the atmosphere is produced by marine plants? Another reason we should protect our seas!

We are an environmentally friendly company and handle 99% of our transactions digitally, because we have a deep respect for our oceans and the planet. We are passionate about protecting the environment and doing our part in creating a better world for all of us. So, in honor of our company’s mission, we’d like to invite you to celebrate World Oceans Day with us!

Here are a few ways you can celebrate World Oceans Day:

  1. Attend a local event with your family, friends and community. There are plenty of events taking place all over the country, including in New Jersey and New York, in support of World Oceans Day, such as this event at Whale’s Tale in Cape May on Sunday.
  2. Wear blue, tell two. This World Oceans Day slogan is meant to encourage you to wear blue over the weekend in support of ocean conservation. However, it’s not enough to just wear the color; those taking part are encouraged to share two facts about why it’s important to protect our oceans. Here’s an example: Fact: The number one item recovered during beach cleanings in New Jersey was plastic—nearly 40,000 pieces collected in total.
  3. Reduce your plastics consumption. Pack a plastic-free lunch and pack your food in a reusable cloth bag for a week (and try to make a routine of it), visit your local farmers market and purchase plastic-free produce. When storing your leftovers, pack them in trendy mason jars or other glassware.
  4. Take a stroll by the sea and think about what the ocean does for you, then comment on our post and share your thoughts! Posting your comments and ideas online is one of the best ways to raise awareness of this important day.

World Oceans Day is an annual and global celebration and collaboration for a better future that takes place on June 8. People all around our blue planet celebrate and honor the ocean on this day.
